Dosage and application method of Wellbutrin SR for smoking cessation course
Wellbutrin SR dosage:
One Wellbutrin SR tablet (150 mg) should be used one time a day for first 7 days of course (you have to stop smoking for these 7 days). Starting from 8th day, 1-2 tablets should be used a day until the end f treatment course (300 mg of bupropion is standard day dose).The interval between two tablets intake should be more than 8 hours.
Minimal treatment therapy course is 21 days. Optimal treatment course is 34 days.
Calculation for 21 day:
7(one tablet a day for the first seven days) + 14*2(two tablets a day for fourteen days) = 35 tablets. Treatment course can be increased up to 63 days if needed.
Wellbutrin SR method of application:
- Swallow the pill and wash it down with water. Don’t bite, disperse and chew the tablets
- DO NOT TAKE more than one pill at once and MORE THAN TWO PILLS in one day. Overdose will not increase your results in smoke dependence treatment process
- Take the pills with at least 8 hour interval
- Treatment course must be from 3 to 7 weeks in case you don’t have any side effects
- You should reduce alcohol use or stop drinking alcohol at all because Wellbutrin SR can amplify alcohol effect
- Your doctor can decide to reduce dosage step by step if Wellbutrin SR discontinuation occurred
- If you use another smoking dependence treatment therapy you should consult with your doctor or pharmaceutist
Bupropion can be combined with nicotine replacement therapy.
It’s important to mention that treatment using Wellbutrin SR should be started earlier than you stop smoking. You should plan to stop smoking after first two weeks of Wellbutrin SR use. If you don’t feel positive results during 7 weeks of therapy, you should stop using Wellbutrin SR.
